WHAT IS WEBS & WHAT IS
WEBS UP TO?
Friends
of Netarts Bay Watershed, Estuary, Beach & Sea (WEBS) is a non-profit 501
(c) (3) organization made up of volunteers interested in creating opportunities
for Netarts Bay area residents, property owners, interested citizens and
visitors to learn about and experience the unique natural and cultural history
of the area between Cape Meares and Cape Lookout on the northern Oregon Coast,
through education.
WEBS strives to:
·
Build a “learning community” between the capes that encourages people
to become lifelong learners about the area and engage in stewardship of its
rich natural and cultural history.
·
Build partnerships with other
organizations and people that will increase community pride in “their place”
and contribute to the vitality of the area.
·
Increase the use of Netarts Bay as a place for learning about
watersheds, estuaries, beaches and seas.
The WEBS Vision Statement:
|
WEBS
(Watershed, Estuary, Beach & Sea) is a community committed to
sustainability through education. As a result of education efforts by WEBS,
by the year 2012, the Netarts Watershed will be recognized throughout the
Pacific Northwest as a unique, pristine, and treasured ecosystem, providing
opportunities for recreation, enjoyment, appreciation, and learning.
Encouraged and led by WEBS, the local community will support and be engaged
in the sustained stewardship of Netarts area beaches, estuaries, wetlands,
and watersheds, resulting in their protection and preservation to provide a
permanent habitat for wildlife, a resource for learning, a spectacular venue
for recreation, a model for other communities, and a continuing source of
enhancement of the local economy and quality of life. |
WEBS Character, History,
People, and Projects:
WEBS
seeks to connect place – a very special place – with people, through education.
This was longtime Netarts resident Jim Mundell’s vision, and though he is gone
from us now, his dream is realized through WEBS. Jim not only left WEBS with a
mission, he also left a trust administered by the Oregon Community Foundation
to make our work possible. We seek local and regional partners who share a
passion for the Netarts Bay area to help us accomplish common goals.
WEBS
began as an advisory committee formed by Jim Mundell in 2004. Friends of
Netarts Bay WEBS incorporated in October, 2006 and subsequently became a
non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.
